Social Media and Rural Internet Such as HughesNet

Social media has a significant placement on the World Wide Web and prior to the availability of high speed rural internal, residents of remote communities could not easily participate. Dialup internet could not cope with image files and applications involved in social media.

This type of internet media indicates a collective group of websites with content that is primarily published by the users of the site. The content submitted to the site is not created by the owner or employees. To use the site, people are required to register and become part of the community and now are welcome to submit content to the website, provided they adhere to the collective guidelines.

Social Media is A Form of Global Communication

Social media sites are not intended for use by individuals or organizations intending to use it as an advertising venue. Their purpose is to allow members to share articles, images and video clips that are unique or newsworthy. You will be banned from the community if you are found to be using it as a forum to promote yourself or your products. The community expects you to give suggestions for content that have high informational or entertainment value.

In the case of social media sites such as Facebook or MySpace, members use it as a means to communicate personal information with other users they have invited to view their unique space. It’s a great way to stay up to date with the activities of friends and family and view their recent photos.

You can also join social media groups with a specific focus and use these to share ideas and information about what you are doing. These can be used to make announcements about events that are a part of what you for business and can lead to potential customers for your products and services. You will get a “thumbs down” if you aggressively try to use it to sell.

Things to Consider When Choosing a High-Speed Internet Provider.

There are many choices to consider when choosing a High-Speed Satellite Internet Service that makes selecting the right provider of paramount importance.  New customers should decide what type of service they want, and then compare providers’ plans to determine which company offers the level of service that best suits their needs.
Some companies promise unbelievable net browsing speed, over-exaggerate the features provided by their systems, and fail to deliver the level of service their customers expect. As a result, customers who do not “do their homework” may find themselves tied to a high-priced, lengthy contract, and a sub-standard internet system.
Although there are many high-speed internet providers, the one company that consistently offers unbeatable speed and reliability is Hughes Net.  With more than 325,000 subscribers, Hughes Net sets the standard within the industry for consistency and speed.
Brad’s Electronics, Inc. is dedicated to providing our customers with a reliable and affordable High-Speed Internet service tailored to fit their individual needs.  By partnering with Hughes Net, our customer service representatives are able to help you connect to the internet with the plan that best suits your home or business requirements.

HughesNet Download Period aka “FAP-Free Time

HughesNet Download Period aka “FAP-Free Time

Since it’s occasionally necessary to download large files such as Windows updates, HughesNet provides a period when you can download a lot of data and not be penalized by the Fair Access Policy (FAP).  HughesNet calls this the “Download Period.”  We like to call it “FAP-Free Time.”
The actual hours of the Download Period depend on the HughesNet modem that you are using.  HughesNet states that “the hours of unrestricted use shall begin no later than 2:00 AM and end no earlier than 7:00 AM Eastern Time.”  For my HN7000S modem, the Download Period is from 2AM-7AM Eastern Time.
Note that a FAP Penalty is disregarded during the Download Period, meaning that downloads are at full-speed during that period even if you are currently penalized.

Limitations of the Download Period

Though you can download large files without penalty during the Download Period, there are other limitations in place:
  1. Downloads are subject to available network capacity.
  2. Download speeds are not guaranteed during these hours.
  3. The HughesNet Acceptable Use Policy is still in effect.

How Large Downloads Work

Downloads that extend into or out of the Download Period can get a little tricky.  This is best explained with an example.
Let’s say you start a massive download at 1AM that concludes at 8AM.  The amount you download between 1AM-2AM will count toward your FAP download limit.  Of course anything you download between 2AM-7AM will not count toward your FAP limit since this is the FAP-Free Time.  Then the amount you download between 7AM-8AM will once again count toward your limit.
The same applies with a FAP penalty.  If your download speed is severely restricted due to FAP penalty, your downloads between 1AM-2AM will be very slow.  Your download speed will return to normal between 2AM-7AM during FAP-Free time.  Then if you still have time remaining on your FAP penalty, your download speed will drop again after the Download Period ends at 7AM.

HughesNet Information

About HughesNet
Headquartered in Germantown Maryland, HughesNet pioneered high-speed satellite Internet service. They are the oldest and largest satellite service provider, having been in business for more than 31 years, and having sold more than 1.5 million satellite systems worldwide.

How Satellite Internet Works

Instead of sending an Internet signal through a telephone line, satellite Internet providers broadcast their signal up to a satellite hovering above the earth. The satellite then bounces the signal back down to a satellite dish which captures the signal and sends it to a modem. The modem decodes the signal and sends it to a computer.

HughesNet Info.

* HughesNet offers the highest speeds of all the satellite providers - 5 Mbps which is 50 times faster than 56K dialup service. Their closest competitors, WildBlue and Skyway, only offer plans with speeds up to 1.5 Mbps.

* HughesNet offers the least expensive plan for 1 Mbps service. This plan give you 1 Mbps upload speeds and 128 Mbps download speeds for $39.99 a month for the first 3 months, then $59.99 a month thereafter. All their plans include 5 email accounts plus spyware and anti-virus protection.

* They install all their equipment for free using a professional installer, and there are no access or set-up fees. You have the option of either buying or leasing their equipment.

* They offer a 2-year warranty on all parts and labor, and their customer support service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

* Unlike some satellite service providers, their service is available anywhere in the U.S.

* Their modems have diagnostic and configuration options.

* They are the only satellite service provider to offer a 30-day money-back guarantee if you are not satisfied with their service or their system.

* HughesNet has more than 30 years experience in the satellite business, and more than 400 million satisfied customers in the U.S. alone. Their nearest competitor, WildBlue has been in business for 7 years and has only 100,000 U.S. customers.

HughesNet Recovery Act

2009 Broadband Stimulus Plan

The 2009 Broadband Stimulus Plan provides America with renewed hope during a tough economic period. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009, recently passed by Congress, ensures that broadband Internet access is available throughout the United States.
Various Internet services providers (ISPs), including HughesNet, will receive funding under the ARRA to extend the availability of Internet throughout America. The bill looks to provide underserved, Internet-deprived rural neighborhoods with satellite broadband Internet service.
Wireless Internet offers a potential solution, but it often requires costly installations, typically in the form of fiber-optic cables. Depending on the terrain, one mile of fiber-optic cable can cost between $10,000 and $20,000. HughesNet's satellite broadband Internet is a great alternative to expensive fiber-optic technology. With a clear view of the southern sky, any home or business can take advantage of satellite technology - regardless of location.

Who is Affected?

If you live in a rural, Internet-deprived neighborhood in the United States, the ARRA affects you. The 2009 Broadband Stimulus Plan will provide underserved American homes, schools, and hospitals with Internet access. HughesNet is among various ISPs due to receive funding under this act.
If you cannot get Internet service from DLS or cable companies due to inaccessibility, HughesNet's #1 satellite Internet service is perfect for you! With a clear view of the southern sky, you can enjoy rural Internet service. To benefit America's underserved, Internet-deprived residents, the ARRA will provide HughesNet with funding. You may be eligible for rural Internet service.
